The charges for registration and stamp duty put together can come up to 7% to 10% of the total market value of the property or more than that. In most of the states in India, 5-7% of the total market value of the property is said to be charged as stamp duty while 1% is said to be charged as registration fee.
It is to be noted that there is no fixed fees for lawyers in the case of registration of property. But in general practice lawyers charge legal fees ranging from 1% to 2% of market value of property for registration.
