Is it necessary to mention father’s name in an Aadhaar Card?

Response

Aadhaar is a 12 digit individual identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India on behalf of the Government of India. The number serves as a proof of identity and address, anywhere in India. Any individual, irrespective of age and gender, who is a resident in India and satisfies the verification process laid down by the UIDAI can enrol for Aadhaar.

You are a divorcee and you do not want to enter your husbands name as a father’s name in the aadhaar card of your daughter. Well this is possible and can be done by visiting any aadhaar center in your area. You can enter your name instead of your husbands name. You also need to understand that your husband remains the biological father of your daughter irrespective of your divorce status. Mentioning fathers name in aadhaar card is not mandatory and you can enter mothers name instead.

Your daughters Aadhaar card which was issued by UIDAI, can be updated also and for doing this ,you will have to visit any of the Aadhaar centre where you will be required to fill the form which is known as updating form. You can go to a nearby Aadhaar center and can apply for the name change on your daughters aadhaar card. Take your documents along with you.
