Yes you can write your mother’s name behind your daughter’s name on the Aadhar card as well as other documents. It is not necessary to add father’s name with the daughter’s.
In 2015, the Supreme Court gave a landmark judgement in favour of an unmarried mother.
As per the judgement the mother shall be the sole legal guardian of the child without the permission of the father.
The court also opined that the mother was not required to reveal the identity of the father.
The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has also held that single mothers need not disclose the name of the child’s father at the time of registering the child’s birth.
Back in 2003, the Tamil Nadu government had also given a nod to permit the motherÕs initials before a childÕs name.
Thus there are many instances in favour of a single mother or parent.
In the present case, you may choose whatever surname or name you wish to add with the daughter’s name.
However, if the Authority does not accept or declines, then you may file a writ before the High Court to get the work done. A writ of mandamus is a court order compelling someone to execute a duty that they are legally bound to do.
